BREAKING: Mitch McConnell (81) Freezes at Podium, Says He’s “Fine”

Mitch McConnell freeze and required assistance to hobble away from the podium while speaking at a press conference today. He told reporters that he was “fine,” but it is clear by the footage that the incident represented significant medical distress for the 81 year old senior Republican senator.

It has always been clear to the American people that elderly politicians pose a significant liability to the function and efficacy of the federal government. It would make sense to take the opportunity to consider policy change to protect the country from both physical delay and also bad policy as enacted by old politicians who are out of touch or otherwise in a cognitive decline.

The American federal government is no place for participation trophies. We continue to allow senior citizens to make decisions that will impact America long after they have died. This, and so many other instances of functional failure of our elderly bureaucrats are a good call to action for anyone who wants a functioning government.

The obvious policy to get behind would be Term Limits. Taking that to the next level would be age limits. I see no reason for an 80 year old to participate in the government of the general population. Those kinds of politicians are held together by string and propped up by the special interest groups who’s interests they serve by staying in office. They don’t need the money and they don’t represent the American people.

It is unfortunate that Mr. McConnell is experiencing medical distress, but I don’t know him personally and worse things happen to people every day. No need for sympathy. This is politics.
