Scientists on Gender: Neil deGrasse Tyson and Richard Dawkins Weigh in

Gender and sex – it's a hot topic that never fails to get people riled up! Check out this debate between Neil deGrasse Tyson and Richard Dawkins. Tyson, the astrophysics guru, insists that gender is a spectrum with all kinds of identities. On the other side of the ring, Dawkins, the evolutionary biologist, ain't budging an inch, swearing that sex is strictly binary, and anyone who says otherwise is living in La La Land.

Neil deGrasse Tyson

An American astrophysicist, author, and science entertainer. Tyson studied at Harvard University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Columbia University.

Richard Dawkins

A British evolutionary biologist and author. He is an emeritus fellow of New College, Oxford, and was Professor for Public Understanding of Science in the University of Oxford from 1995 to 2008.

Both of these men do public speaking events, but Tyson has no expertise in biology. He is an entertainer who has focused on stirring up curiosity around the cosmos. He follows in the footsteps of the more scientifically credible Carl Sagan.

On the other hand, Richard Dawkins has built his entire career on biology and has found quite a bit of success doing so.

The gender conversation is fascinating simply because it is happening. Something so simple that has become overrun by fashion trends fueled by social media, the gender conversation is important enough to weigh in on, but dangerous for sure.

I risk being cancelled and I risk limiting my future employment opportunities by having an unpopular opinion on the topic, but, as always, I value being correct over being popular.

I’m still working on my articles about sex and gender. They are comprehensive deep dives, and at this point, I have evolved the project into three upcoming articles: Sex & Gender, My Beliefs, and Transgenderism. I think these three angles deserve their own treatments and I am looking forward to having my thoughts fully formed and published.

I’m a man of principle and I invest my energy in being on the right side of history if for no other reason than to avoid the shame of being outted as a fool or a bystander.
